Jacqueline Greentree

Jacqueline researched how education and training systems can develop the workforce capability needed for technologically changing industries. Her PhD examines how Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) system contributes to skills development for advanced manufacturing, with a particular focus on employability, capability development and the conditions that enable people to participate, progress and adapt as work changes.

Her research brings together education policy, VET practice and industry workforce development. It explores how curriculum, educator expertise, learner support, infrastructure, industry partnerships and pathways shape the development of technical, digital and broader capabilities needed for advanced manufacturing. A key focus of the research is moving beyond the question of whether workers can demonstrate competence to consider how education and training can also develop the judgement, adaptability and capacity to apply learning in new and changing situations.

Jacqueline brings professional experience across vocational education, higher education, schools and government. Her work has included education policy and quality assurance, curriculum governance, student pathways and retention, accreditation, VET-related programs and research. This experience informs her interest in how policy settings translate into practice and how different parts of Australia’s education and training system can work together more effectively.

Her broader research interests include VET and tertiary education policy, employability and capability, workforce development, education–industry partnerships, pathways between VET and higher education, and skills development for emerging and technology-rich industries. She is particularly interested in opportunities to work with education providers, government, industry and researchers on questions of workforce capability, skills policy and the future of vocational and tertiary education.

Thesis Title

Project 5.1: Skills for the Future: Vocational Education for the Advanced Manufacturing Industry 

Jacqueline’s research examines to what extent and how Australia’s VET system contributes to skills development for advanced manufacturing. The research considers how education and training can support not only occupational competence, but the broader capability workers need to participate, progress and adapt in increasingly technology-rich workplaces.
