Perception in Robotics and Applications to Material Processing seminar

Perception in robotics is arguably the bottleneck for autonomy. Developing efficient, accurate, on-line, off-line and mainly probabilistic perception algorithms with a wide-variety of sensors had been a key part of Associate Professor Teresa Vidal Calleja’s research journey. In the first part of the talk, Teresa, from University of Technology Sydney, will go through some of the robotic perception approaches that she has developed during her academic career to empower autonomous systems in the field.

In the second part of the talk, Professor XiaoQi Chen, from Swinburne University of Technology, will present applications of robotics in complex material processing incorporating in-situ sensing and machine learning, and highlight challenges in achieving a sufficient level of autonomy and reliability.
