Tobias Kaupp

Tobias Kaupp is a Visiting Professor with the Australian Cobotics Centre (ACC) from the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS). He is based at UTS working with Teresa Vidal-Calleja on Program 1 (Biomimic Cobots) between September 2023 and February 2024.

Tobias has been a Professor for Digital Production and Robotics at THWS since November 2018. He is the director of their Center for Robotics (CERI) which works in close collaboration with the regional industry. Tobias’ research interests include human-robot collaboration for industrial assembly tasks and mobile manipulators for smart factories. Tobias has also been instrumental in establishing a new B.Eng. in Robotics course and establishing a number of laboratories for teaching and research at THWS.

Prior to accepting his role as a professor, Tobias had been acting as a director of Sydney-based mobile robotics company Marathon Robotics over a period of ten years. He co-founded the company in 2008 with two other PhD graduates from the Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) at the University of Sydney. Tobias completed his PhD thesis at the ACFR on the topic of “Collaborative Human-Robot Interaction” in 2008. Tobias also holds a Diploma in Applied Physics (2001) and a MSc. in Mechatronics (2003), both awarded by the University of Applied Sciences Ravensburg-Weingarten.
