Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Müller graduated at the RWTH Aachen in the department of automotive engineering. He gained his doctorate in the area of automation technology at the same university.
After his studies and doctorate, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Müller held leading positions in various industrial companies (Schenck, Dürr) since 1996. He was, e.g., CEO at the Schenck Final Assembly Products GmbH and leader of the division Aircraft Assembly Systems at Dürr Systems GmbH. The main focus of both his studies and his career was laid on automotive and aircraft assembly. Since 2008, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Müller has been occupied once more in the field of teaching and science. As professor he directed the teaching and researching department in the field of assembly technology at the RWTH Aachen.
In 2012, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Müller changed to the Centre for Mechatronics and Automation technology in Saarbrücken to take on the position of CEO and to direct the setup of the institution. His scientific focus lies in the division assembly process- and automation.
In addition, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Müller holds lectureships at the Saarland University and the University of Applied Sciences in Saarbrücken as well as the RWTH Aachen. These lectureships contain areas such as assembly system technology, robotics, human robot cooperation and the assembly plus commissioning of vehicles.
