Nico Adams

Associate Professor Nico Adams has extensive experience in harnessing digital technologies to improve business outcomes.

In late 2021, Nico moved to JCU in Cairns where he is Professor, Electronic Systems & IoT Engineering.  Prior to this, he was the Director of Swinburne’s Factory of the Future, a business-led engineering facility, which works with industry to co-create digital innovation journeys for our business partners and students.

Nico also worked at the Innovative Manufacturing CRC where he was Co-creator and product manager of the FutureMap Innovation Diagnostic, a guided assessment of a company’s market positioning and its innovation-, strategy- and digital- maturity.

From 2011-2018, he was a senior research scientist at CSIRO.  During this time, he investigated how modern Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and tools can be used to increase the productivity of Australian Manufacturers and how they allow manufacturers to develop new business models. In the latter period of Nico’s time at CSIRO, he was focused on leveraging modern information technology, the industrial internet and and Industry 4.0 technologies.
