Automating Asset Management Tasks in Factory Settings

In this article, Danial Rizvi, PhD Researcher in the Quality Assurance and Compliance Program at the Australian Cobotics Centre, explores how autonomous robotics are transforming asset management in manufacturing.

By leveraging Boston Dynamics’ robot Spot, researchers at UTS:Robotics Institute are trialling a system where robots perform detailed, unmanned inspections—capturing thousands of images, collecting live telemetry, and uploading data into a real-time dashboard. This innovation shifts asset management from reactive to proactive, allowing manufacturers to make faster, smarter decisions.

Combining robotic mobility, AI-driven vision, and collaborative human-machine workflows, the project highlights a future where cobots enhance—rather than replace—human workers. This work lays the foundation for scalable, autonomous asset management solutions that boost safety, efficiency, and resilience in industrial environments.
