Zhongyi Liu is a PhD researcher at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and an Associate Student with the Australian Cobotics Centre, supervised by Markus Rittenbruch and Jared Donovan. She has a background in architecture and interaction design from the University of Sydney.

Her research explores how robot intention is structured, communicated, and interpreted in human–robot collaboration (HRC), particularly in complex scenarios involving multiple humans and robots. She is especially interested in how robots convey their actions, goals, and future behaviour to different users through embodied interaction, such as motion and spatial cues.

Using a design-led and participatory approach, her work investigates how intention is expressed and understood across different stages of interaction—from early planning and simulation to in-situ collaboration. Through analysing existing systems and practices, her research aims to develop a practical framework to support the design and configuration of intention communication strategies in HRC.
