Usama Ali

Usama Ali is a visiting Scholar with the Australian Cobotics Centre (ACC) from the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS). He is based at UTS for 6 months to work on his Master’s thesis and research in the field of perception in collaborative robotics.

Usama holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with focus in Automation Technology from the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. There he also was part of the Robocup Small-Size-League Team ER-Force, developing the hardware and software of football robots. During his bachelor’s thesis, he started working on the topic of Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), igniting his interest for perception and image processing.

During his masters he began working on the topic of Robotics and is writing his thesis about Object Detection in Collaborative Industrial Assembly Tasks. He was also part of the winning team of the Robothon Competition in 2023.
